1.2.3 Sanctus; 1.2.4 Benedictus; 1.2.5 Agnus Dei; Agnus Dei (Posted 2005-05-26) Kyrie • Gloria • Credo • Sanctus & Benedictus • Agnus Dei
This CPDL edition is incomplete, either movements have not yet been edited or accompaniment is omitted. "Incomplete" here does not refer to the original composition; works left unfinished by the composer are categorised elsewhere.
It includes a selection of chants that are normally published in a companion volume known as the Kyriale, a collection of chants for the Order of Mass: the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. There have been and are other Graduals, apart from the Roman Gradual.
In his Mass in B Minor, Bach sets to music the traditional five texts of the Ordinary that composers had focused upon for centuries. These are the Kyrie (in English, “Lord, have mercy”), Gloria (“Glory to God in the highest”), Credo (“I believe in one God”), Sanctus (“Holy, holy, holy Lord”), and Agnus Dei (“Lamb of God”).
